if Immich is free?
Immich is a free open-source software that anyone can install on their own server. However, Immich is not exactly designed for non-technical users. Setting up and regularly maintaining the server requires a certain level of technical expertise. This responsibility lies entirely with the user, which can be discouraging for many people. In addition, costs for hardware or server hosting must be taken into account. Depending on the size of your photo library, these costs can become significant. Especially with large data volumes or when accessing photos remotely – much depends on your own server and internet performance.

Is the 5 GB SINGLE package really free forever?
Yes. The SINGLE package with 5 GB of storage is free with no time limit. This is not a trial period. You can upgrade to a larger SINGLE package at any time on a voluntary basis.
What is the difference between SINGLE and ADMIN packages?
SINGLE packages consist of a single user account without user management or partner sharing.
Link sharing is, of course, available.
ADMIN packages provide a dedicated Immich instance with admin privileges.
Multiple users (e.g. partner, family members, or teams) can be created, managed,
and connected via partner or family sharing.
Are SINGLE packages suitable for families or couples?
No. SINGLE packages are intended exclusively for individual users. For couples, families, or multiple users, an ADMIN package is required.
How do I access my Immich instance?
With SINGLE packages, you use the official PixoVista domain. With ADMIN packages, you receive a free subdomain from PixoVista in the format yourname.pixovista.com. Alternatively, you can also use your own external domain.
Does each user have their own private storage?
Yes. In ADMIN packages, each user has their own private media area.
Content is only shared if partner or family sharing is actively used.
In SINGLE packages, there is only one user with a single personal media library.
Can shared links be created?
Yes. In both SINGLE and ADMIN packages, shared links can be created for individual photos or entire galleries. Additional options such as password protection or descriptions are available.
Is there a cancellation period?
No. You can cancel your paid package at any time – even on the last day of the billing period. No additional costs or automatic renewals apply.
Where are the Immich servers located?
Our servers are operated in Hetzner data centers in Germany. All services are fully GDPR-compliant and provide excellent connectivity for fast access worldwide.
Are my data stored in a GDPR-compliant manner?
Yes. All data is stored on European servers in full compliance with GDPR. There is no data transfer to external third parties. Machine learning as well as map and location features are fully self-hosted.
What server and storage technology is used?
PixoVista uses high-performance Intel and AMD servers with SSD storage to ensure excellent performance and data security.
Are automatic backups included?
Yes. All servers are automatically backed up daily and can be restored by PixoVista in case of emergencies (e.g. server outages or technical issues).
Are additional backups available?
Optionally, we offer a snapshot backup service for ADMIN packages. Up to 20 daily restore points of your entire instance are created, which can be used if needed.
Does PixoVista use renewable energy?
Yes. All servers are powered by renewable energy sources, primarily hydropower.
Data Processing Agreement (Art. 28 GDPR)
For ADMIN packages, a data processing agreement in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR is concluded. This agreement regulates the processing of personal data on behalf of the customer as well as the corresponding technical and organizational measures.
